So, my trusty old jackson DX1, routed for lo pro floyd style, has had the tremolno taken out of it with fanciful notions of, for the first time in 15 years, using the trem.
It has a gotoh in it.
The locking screws on the gotoh sit just barely above the body, with about 2mm (max) extension over it with intonation set right(ish).
The trem cant raise.
So, my question is this: Given that this is my Sentimental Value guitar (we all have one, no?) do I keep the gotoh and cut a little bevel or dremel a couple of notches out of the back of the trem route so it has full motion because the gotoh is awesome or whatever, or is it worth me getting an Edge lo pro or schaller low pro.
Basically which is the better trem? I know all three are about as well made as they come, but I've heard the gotoh sounds brighter from one or two people, and thats pretty important to me down in drop A#. I dont want to have a negative impact on the tone of the guitar.
Keep gotoh and mod, or replace with one that fits....that might sound worse?
Anyone got any experience of these trems in the same guitar?
This sounds like a joke, but could you shim the neck? That would have the trem sitting higher over the body...
EDIT - not to, you know, be Chris or anything but this sounds like the perfect opportunity for a combined Lion's Claw/Handle operation.
