    Effects Pedals

LOL, please bear with me on this question. I hope I don't sound like an idiot.

I've been trying to learn to play the guitar for a few months now.

I keep seeing peoples pedal set ups and have no idea what they do or why they do it.

Is there somewhere you can go to learn about effects pedals? Like a web site that explains what they are for.

I see pedal boards with multiple pedals, folks talking about Loops, Clean, Driven, Effects and I'm like

It's basically just for people who want different sounds than what your guitar straight into the amp produces. I see that you have a Vyper which has effects already built in so you should mess around with those before you look into buying anything. Or you could go for a multieffects pedal which will cover most of your bases pedalwise and you would be able to see which effects you would like to look into more. To be honest when you first start playing I wouldn't worry to much about effects and just to work on your playing. I've been playing guitar and bass for eight years and I've only acquired 5 or 6 pedals and I don't use any of them in my main rig.

Just go here: BOSS U.S. - Compact & Twin Pedals and listen to samples of all the effects. That will give you an idea of what they all do and what all of the words mean.

Pedals are all taste. When ever I have ever bought a pedal it was for a reason not just so I could have it. For 35 years I have been playing and I do have allot of pedals but allot less then most because I have been using processors mostly .Most recently I have switched back to pedals for my effects but like I said it is all in taste. they do sell books on pedals and the order they should go in when hooked up.
