    Cheap tube amps

    Hey guys!

I've been thinking about getting rid of my old Flextone in order to buy a tube amp for a while now. Right now my options seem to be the Jet City JCA22H and a Blackstar HT-5R. I'll be mostly playing in my bedroom, but my neighbours don't seem to mind a bit of noise. One thing the Blackstar has that the Jet City doesn't have is reverb, but the JC is quite a lot cheaper (and I guess there are reverb pedals that I could buy). So, which one would you guys recommend? Any other amps I should be looking at?

I mostly play thrash and other metal, but also like to have a useable clean channel/light overdrive when I decide to pretend to be something else than a metal guitarist.

Also would this be useable, if I decide to get the Jet City?

Markus! Consider checking out the new Randall RD5 or their other models. They are cheap AND awesome.

The HT-5 and JCA22H are awesome options. I'd actually go for the 22H over the 5R myself, but they're both great value for money and sound fantastic.

Haven't tried an RD5 yet. Haven't seen them at any stores where I could give them a shot.

As for the reverb, you'd be hard pressed to beat a TC Hall of Fame or Mini Hall of Fame, but that's a bit pricier.

Used 6505/5150. I paid something like ~$600 shipped for my 6505+ from Amazon, and it was an absolute monster. Blackstars are shitty.

Hmm, the combo version of the 6505+ is actually quite close to my price range, if I get my ESP Horizon sold. The heads are unfortunately way out of my price range (they seem to go for €800-1000).

There's one of these used on a classifieds site for €450, and they're not totally unaffordable as new either:

So basically it's a used 6505+ combo, or a head+cab of some other brand.

Does the 6505 get useable tone at bedroom levels? That's quite important too.

Just buy a Mesa DC of some sort, and be done with it.

You might find the HT to lack in the gain department. They don't really go past AC/DC-Black Sabbath if my experience with the HT20 is anything to go on.
