So recently I've really wanted to start recording, so I saw BootsPaul put a Presonus 22VL up, and I traded the kind man for it. This Thursday I'm buying an SM57, and soon I'll have a Line 6 PRO HD. My computer is an '07 HP DB6(?). Has beats audio, pretty nice little PC.
Up until now Ive been a basement guitarist, that being said, all I know about recording is that you need a mic, an interface, and a computer that isn't awful. A guy at work recommended a preamp(he said you kind of need it) my teacher didn't mention a preamp, but I know he uses one, and may have just forgotten to mention it.
Do I need a preamp?
Will my 05+ be able to serve as a preamp, and will it do it as well as a separate pre?
Should I get an additional mic?
Should I get pro tools as opposed to studio one?
Would you recommend anything outside of what I have?(SM57>(Pre?)>Presonus interface>Computer(studio one)
Im getting the HD Pro for headphone playing, (presumably easier) recording, Fx, and what not. I'm also thinking of building an ISO cab as a project, and so I could crank it at night, just a couple side notes...
Thanks for any help, I *know* I'll learn on the way, but for now I'd really appreciate a few pushes in the right direction, and maybe I'll share some of my recordings! (I promise I won't post any CHECK MY MIX AFX/JP7 AMBIENT SHIT type threads. I mainly write chordy shit, and 'tasty' soloy shit.)
- What's an 05+?
- Do you mean a Pod HD Pro?
- No, you should just use Reaper.
- If you post anything that says Check my Mix, you will be banished to the Canadian Lefty forum.
