So i figured I'd start a new thread instead of continuing my old one, just curious to get some input from people that are familar with the HD series from Mackie and the K12's from QSC. Currently I have an HD500 that runs the XLR output(s) to my HD1221, only issue is they are mic level and the input on the HD1221 is designed for line level inputs so it is quieter than it should be. Not ideal.
So I have two options. First option is I keep my current HD500, sell the HD1221 and buy a QSC K12. Problem is I've got no personal experience with the K12 despite reading tons of positive reviews. The K12 has one of it's inputs switchable to a mic level input, so that would work with XLR's on the HD500.
Other option I have is I can keep my HD1221, sell my HD500 and move to an HD Pro/FBV Shortboard setup. The HD Pro XLR outputs are switchable between line/mic level, which would be awesome. I already like the HD1221 and I know it sounds great, only issue mine has is the dreaded high pitch hiss on idle. I don't have enough downtime or an alternate rig to use to send it in for warranty unfortunately.
So cost of a K12 would be around $850 new less the price I could sell the HD1221 for, and the cost for an HD Pro plus FBV shortboard foot controller is roughly $887 new less what I could sell my HD500 for. I mostly just need input from folks that have experience with the K12's vs. the HD1221's. The high pitch hiss doesn't bother me too much on my HD1221, I use it for band practice and will be using it as a monitor/cab on stage also running my sound from the Line6 unit to FOH through their PA for gigs.
Nothing no opinions? Cam awn!
