Recently joined a couple of bands on bass, so have taken the opportunity to build up a new rig over the past couple of months. First purchase was this beautiful Fender Jazz USA Standard (2001), in Sunset Orange:
Then I picked up a Tech 21 VT Bass DI, which is a DI box modelled on various Ampeg rigs. Bought this so I could have consistent tone at every gig, and use the parallel out for stage volume/monitoring. Couldn't be happier with it, does everything from big old-fashioned boomy tones to the grindy, Geddy-esque tones I like, as well as having a serious amount of gain on tap. The character knob is similar to the ISF feature on Blackstar amps, albeit with a wider range of possibilities.
Most recent addition is my new Empress Compressor, which replaces the Boss LMB-3 I was using previously. This thing is fucking mind-blowing. Sounds and reacts like a proper rack/DAW compressor, and gives you a huge amount of control over the exact type of compression you want. At the moment I've got it set for a fairly decent amount of squish, with the Mix control backed off to around 2 o'clock, so it evens things out nicely and really helps thicken everything up.
All together, with my trusty Pitchblack as well:
Finally got round to recording a bass vid today. Might not be the best demo, in that thrash tones are hardly bass-centric, but it's a fuck of a lot of fun. Will try and get round to recording a few bass-only demos at some point if anyone's interested. Anyway, here's a little bit of Waste:

Empress compressor and a VT Bass DI! Killer man.
