Ok, so after loyally using my Peavey XXX for nearly a decade and getting it to sound passable , I'm starting to feel that it's time for a change.
I'm actually pretty dumb when it comes to amps, so hence topic. I'm looking for a amp that can do it all: rock, metal, satch/timmons smooth leads, good clean sound, the lot. And I'm actually going to try to avoid putting an OD at the front as well.
The contestants so far:
Mesa Boogie Dual/Triple Recto 3 Channel
Used the Dual for recording and a Triple for a show in Adelaide. Loved both and a strong contender... unless there's other Mesa variants that can be thrown here.
Peavey JSX/Triple XXX 2
A no brainer. Not far off from what I'm used to, certainly better cleans. Plus they're not all that expensive either.
EVH 5150 III
Another easy candidate. I've actually wanted one of these for quite some time but never got around to getting one for all sorts of reasons...
H&K Tri Amp Mk2
Only listed here as my friend is selling his. To be honest I've fallen out of love with this amp...
Marshall JVM (normal and Satch sig)
Damn, the Satch rigs just come back to haunt me... Features in either models are nice (an extra channel is a bonus), plus I can handle any Marshall I plug into. Need to try out the Satch sig soon...
Those are what come to mind so far. I'm in no real rush so I might not get a new amp until a few more months. So throw some more suggestions.
Either that or I'll finally cave in to my friends's pestering and buy a Kemper...
Have you considered a Roadster or RoadKing? You might also consider some of Rivera's lineup. I'm sure Greeeeeeeggggggggggg would fill you in.
