There is a guy local here selling a non working JCM 2000 head for $100, and I've talked him down substantially from there. He says HE couldn't figure it out, but maybe its just a tube. Are these decent heads? Is it worth trying to fix if I could get it for $50?
I'm not at all familiar with Marshalls, so I don't know if this is a dud or not.

Let's put it this way- nothing sounds worse than a DSL except a TSL and the only thing worse than that is a JCM900. They were pretty mediocre amps that had maybe one useable sound at best and a plethora of reliability issues. But hey, $50 makes it worth it. Even if you put $200 of parts into it you could flip it for more than you paid.
I did a similar thing the other week with a JTM30 2x10 combo. Guy sold it for $50 because the output transformer is dead. I just ordered ome for $66 and once it in there will either use it or flick it off for like $450.
