I have an opportunity to pick up a 412M with Sheffield speakers for $100. It looks like it's in pretty good shape.
The Crate cabinet I traded for a couple weeks ago is loaded with Celestion G12S-50 speakers. The cab itself is pretty filthy and even after cleaning it, the carpet, fuzzy, dish-scrubber stuff they put on them is pretty ratty and stained.
However, tone and functionality are more important to me now and the Crate works, so I can live with that.
I saw that some folks do or don't like Sheffield speakers and looked around the forum before posting.
Any suggestions? Thoughts on one speaker vs the other? Should I pull the trigger on the Peavey cab (it's the bottom cab in a stack) or just stick with the Crate? I'd read somewhere that the Peavey cabs are pretty durable.
Thanks for your help.
The Peavey cabs are extremely durable, and I'd say the Peavey speakers are better than the Crate ones. It's a good deal.
I'm personally not a fan of the speakers. I think they're based on G12Ts, which I don't like. I have a feeling they might work well if you blended them with V30s or V30 clones, though.
