I did my quarterly pawn shop rounds yesterday, and came across a Mesa Oversized 4x12. I tested it out with a Marshall Mode Four head to make sure that it worked, then talked to them about their final out the door price, which was $300.
Once I get it home and play my 5153(100 watt) head through it, I realize very quickly that my EVH 2x12 sounds infinitely better. I just chalked it up to liking the EVH cab more. It bothered me though, because I remember all my other Mesa cabs through the years sounding better. So, I pop the back plate and see...
Eminence Red Coat Governors
What the heck...
I am a little perturbed, since I thought that I was getting Made in England V30s. I am going to contact the pawn shop and try for a partial refund. If they will, then I am going to load the Mesa cab with something different, that is more appealing to my tastes.
Any suggestions, other than V30s and Eminence Governors? lol I want to try something different, since I have played V30s for many, many years. I want a big bottom end, and smooth highs with great clarity under high gain. I will mainly be playing my 5153 through it, since that is one bad mamajama of a perfect amp. haha
Thanks in advance for any, and all suggestions.
The Governors are a modern take on the V30s. You can order the proper V30s through Mesa if you want to restore it to it's original glory or C-90s from them as well.
Other suggestion would be Lynchbacks, Creambacks, Eminence Legends.
