Use: 80% bedroom, 10% rehearsal with drummer, 10% 50+ person club through PA
Music: Metallica, VH, Eric Johnson -- with some ability to run clean and sparkly
-12" Combo or Head,
-no pedals needed,
-45 pounds max for combo (see exception below)
Budget: >$700 -- although if I can avoid using it all, that's good
Other gear: Roland Cube 80XL, Fender Mustang
I'm looking for something with more metal to it than the Cube and Mustang that'll work in the situations described. I've got my eye on the DSL40C, Laney Ironheart combo (or head), the H&K Tubemeister 18 combo (or head) and some of the Blackstar stuff.
They all seem to fit the bill and I'm not sure I can go wrong with any of them... but that darn Bugera 6260 is <$300 even if it lasts 12 months and busts, it seems like one heck of a deal. Yes, I know it's a heavy silly beast with the 2x12 combo -- but at that price, I'd probably suck it up and cart it around as needed. I wouldn't feel the same way about the 5150/6505 because the price level isn't screaming value...
Should I just get the Bugera or are one of these higher end names going to better deliver the goods?
Channel 1 : All the cleans you can handle.
Channel 2 : All the crunch you can handle.
Channel 3 : All the lead you can handle.
Per getting a cheap Bugera; buy nice or buy twice! Don't buy a Bugera every year for $300. Buy a 6505+ for $650, and when you're tired of it a couple years down the road (you won't be, unless you're upgrading), sell it for $500.
