I really dig my PRS SE Custom 24, especially I installed Grover locking tuners, a tusq nut and the two Illuminator pick ups.
Right now my main amp is the Roland GA-212 which is... okay. I mean, it's great if you wanna have some mushy, distorted sounds. I have a 7-string Les Paul from 2000 and it sounds AWESOME. When I plug in my PRS, however, I don't get the sounds I am looking for.
So far I haven't experimented with the gain settings and using various distortion or crunch pedals. I should probably do that.
I wanted to ask whether someone can recommend an amp that can get me a good hard rock or heavy metal sound that is "clean". By that I mean that I want to have a distorted sound but where you can still clearly distinguish the notes. When I listen to songs like "Altitudes" by Jason Becker or "The looking glass" by Dream Theater you have a really nice sound that doesn't sound mushy.
Okay, I admit that my technique is most likely not good enough to play the Arpeggios in Altitudes cleanly but the intro of "The looking glass" is pretty easy and I can play it very well... however I don't like the sound. I still want to hear all the notes cleanly.
But maybe the amp is not actually the problem, in which case I would be happy if you guys could suggest what else might be the problem. Maybe I have wrong expectations or something.
By the way, what do you guys think about Engl? I haven't been able to play one myself but I've heard good things.
Oh and concerning the price... I'm hoping to keep it at around 500 Euro but feel free to recommend anything that is under 1000.
6505 dude, all the way.
