... Is not a 5150
Long story short, my Laney VH100R is insanely loud and I can't get it to sound good at sane volumes so I'm thinking about selling it.
I play in a cover band so I'm basically looking for something versatile with a good clean tone that can get dirty at playable volumes (and a loop). Uber metal distortion is not a priority this time.
Budget is 1000$-ish (used).
I had a VH100R and they are great amps but you do need to run them pretty hot to get that ideal spot.
A few options come to mind, Marshall JVM205, Mesa F30/F50/Nomad 55, Fender Super Sonic 60, ENGL Screamer 50, Peavey Classic 50 head. I've owned most of those amps and the ones I haven't have heard in the context of what you're after and they should suit nicely as they're generally not as reliant on power amp clipping as the VH100R is.
