Right, short but sweet one. Ever since I got my cobra, I've loved it but its always had some characteristics I didnt gel with. the top end can get a bit brittle, and the lows stomp all over the bass in the band mix. I tried various things, but I struggled to get it to sit nicely in the mix without compromising too much and decided it was time to do things properly - go Mesa.
I've gassed for a Mark series for a while now - and decided to get a Mesa Studio Pre on the cheap - £350! it sounds great in the cobra's power amp, but that brittle top end is still present so i know its the power section and the cobra needs to go. (Sorry Shawn we'll always be bros).
So yesterday I picked up a mesa fifty/fifty with blue light for £290 and I'm all set.
I cant wait to crank this thing at our next practice. combined with my other guitarists Mark V our tone should be tight as arseholes.
although that treadplate rack case weighs a fucking ton - heavier than my 2x12 I might mod it to iic+ specs if its worth it, but at the moment it gets as much gain with a boost as my Cobra did, and it sits so much better in the mix.
