Title says it all. I've been offered an Axe-Fx for my Laney VH100R head, which was intended to fund a 5150 III 50W head. I wasn't really considering the Axe until now, so it's quite a dilemma.
- The 5150 III: I'd just have to buy the head. I already have a Boss GT-8 for effects. Was planning on selling my ENGL 412 cab and getting a the matching 212.
- The Axe-Fx: I could either sell the cab and go direct or keep the cab and buy a poweramp. I would have to get a midi controller and a rack either way.
So yeah, the effects on the Axe-Fx will be better, but it's not like I use much of them (only chorus, delay and reverb). The Axe will sound awesome, it's really portable and has a truckload of possibilities but I don't know If I'd really make use of them. The 5150 III just sounds awesome and the feeling of playing through an amp can't be beaten and you're "safer" from monitoring problems.
Help me decide! I really don't know what to do. Never had or played an Axe-Fx as I'm more of an "analog guy" when it comes to live playing, but that may also be due to the modeller units I tried didn't cut it. I play in a cover band and a classic metal one, BTW.
The amp, sounds like your leaning that way anyway. Also a rack setup is not necessarily more portable, once you add a power amp (mine is like a brick) and rack case its a head.
