Here's the funny thing.
EEEEEEEEEEEE - banez is actually the correct pronunciation. The name is spanish. It was only when the Japanese bought the name that the pronunciation changed.
Eye-banez is linguistically incorrect, but it's the one that's used.
I only know that because I tried to stick to the correct pronunciation during my first two months of playing, and was given so much shit for it by friends that I sold out.
So you know, "Eeeee-banez" is how you pronounce the name the Japanese corporation bought. The Japanese corporation Hoshino Gakki bought the rights to the spanish luthier " Salvador Ibáñez"'s name.
The mispronunciation is so ubiquitous that it's a point not worth arguing.
If you expect anyone who knows anything about spanish classical guitar to pronounce it "Eye-banez" if they haven't been around electric guitarists, you've got another thing coming. I'm amazed some people actually think it's a Japanese name/word.
