So I snagged an Orange-style 2x12 cab (what Avatar calls it's "comtemporary cab) on CL for cheap. It's loaded with 25w Greenbacks. Since I'm really use to mostly Celestion V30 & Mesa C90 speakers, I took a gamble & decided to try them out. It definitely different & I'm trying to wrap my ears around them.
With my Friedman PT-20, it definately has that classic sound. However, I did notice that the amp EQ sweep isn't as effective on the Greenbacks as they are on my C90 loaded cabs.
So, am I missing something? Educate me.
I also bought the cab with the intention of buying a pair 65w Creamback speakers. They are supposed to be the best of a V30 & Greenback combined. Friedman uses these Creambacks in his 1x12 cabs, so that's got me thinking as well.
Should I stick with these Greenbacks or just go for the Creambacks?
What do you guys think?
I love greenbacks. However they do need to be pushed in order to really 'bloom'. I've got 4 in a cab and it really shines with the Ecstasy and other similar hot rodded Marshall style amps.
Once you get them dialed in right they'll killer but they do have a very particular curve about them.
