I bought myself an Engl e651 Artist. I actually went to a shop to get a Metal Amp (which can if possibly also play Rock/Clean). I play Stuff like Lamb of God, Slipknot, Megadeath. It is my first expensive Amp and I really think it sounds pretty great! But now im not sure if that thing is really good to play Metal on because everyone in the Internet seems to play Classic Rockstuff on it. Now im not sure if I should keep it or bring it back! Does anyone of you own this amp or has played it? Whats your opinion on it?
This guy made it sound pretty good for metal but if I take the same Settings it doesnt really sound like that ^^ Might it be because he uses an Engl Cab and i use an Orange Jim Root Cab?
Thanks for any help!
Well, as far as it not sounding like the dude in the video...He's probably double-tracked the guitars and applied post processing. The sound you hear on a recording is pretty much never gonna be the sound you get in the room with the cab. So there's that.
As far as it being good for metal...can you get a tone out of that you like & enjoy playing metal with? If yes, then its good for metal. If not, then keep looking. Some things you can take into consideration are the guitar you're using & what pickups it has. If you're using lower output pickups (singlecoils, PAF style, soapbars, etc etc) then you might have a harder time getting a high-gain tone that you like. You can also consider adding a drive pedal...very common practice for high gain amps.
I've had an E530 and a Savage120 and they were both fantastic for metal. Not sure how they compare to the 651 though. Orange cabs are pretty common in metal, I can't imagine it being a detriment to your tone, you just might have to shape the EQ differently than a guy using an ENGL cab...I don't have personal experience with either though.
