Probably a NRD because this is a seriously nerdy device
Or at least you have to be at least a little detailed in order to properly use it! After a ton of talk with James and Adam, I pulled the trigger on a 2nd gen G System and lucked out in getting one with a Nova Drive included. I had to do a factory restore and then the crazy setup in Laird's white paper on the device to get the insert (i.e. the amp!) working, but after a bit of setup, man this thing sounds glorious. It makes me really happy I modded the amp to a serial loop recently.
I'm still running an amp gizmo for midi switching the amp, and I've racked a Grid Slammer overdrive as loop 1. I am either going to run the nova drive or my acoustic sim pedal in a second loop and rack it as well, but I need to experiment before I can tell which is more practical.
There is an instant upgrade over running the HD500 and I can hear it in the transparency and in the effects quality, especially the reverbs, chorus, and whammy effects. This is a great unit and I will be playing live again this fall, so it's the right rig at the right time.
