Choosing between Fractal AX8 or the Line 6 Helix? Check this out...

I made a comparison video between the two. Both are great units, but with different highs and lows. Check it out:

For me, every time you went to the Line 6 I could immediately pick up that odd Line 6 nasal fizz. I've owned a ton of Line 6 stuff and whatever it is, that same fizz always makes me end up putting them on eBay. I think my ear is just used to listening for it because I've spent so much time in the past trying to EQ it out of my mixes, and it's definitely still there in the Helix.

Both sound damn good though, and awesome video as always man.

Haven't checked the video yet, but shouldn't that fizz be able to be low-passed away?

Anyway, I know exactly what you're talking about and I can get mad at that fizz too.

    Will watch the video soon!

It sounds like there is a pretty drastic EQ difference in the the AX8 and Helix sims. Did you try EQ'ing them to get them to sound closer or did you mirror EQ settings on the amps and just recorded it? There wasn't much in the video about how you built each patch and the differences in EQ. I would think you could tweak the Helix sims a bit more from what I hear in my headphones. When you use your IR they sound much closer to each other.

The fizz is usually rectified by pulling back the gain slightly or tweaking the EQ in the sim a bit more but I don't do much metal anymore so its been a while since I create a high gain metal patch.

I set a global high pass and low pass filter on my Helix to snip off the frequency ranges that are normally not in a guitar tone from a real amp. HighPass at around 80-100 Hz and LowPass at 5-6 kHz

This is what most studio guys do anyways during production so I just did it in the Helix up front. It really cleaned up the sound, tightened it and got rid of alot of "extra" stuff in the sound. But again, I dont do ultra low tuning or overly metal sounds so YMMV.
