I think you're dead-on. Buying an Axe FX, Kemper, Helix, etc. is just plain easier for a lot of guitar players. Those are great, but I still love an amp over any modeler.

Jumping into the "buy it now before it's gone" part of the thread, the piece of guitar gear I sold that I still GAS for occasionally is my old (also Leon's old) TriAxis. There was always something slick about having that and a 2:90 in a rack as an ultimate Mesa amplifier. Mesa has done a good job of making their amps more modern recently, making the recent Mark amps (25, 35, JP2C+) rackmountable, and also the MIDI capability of the JP2C+ is long overdue. But if Mesa ever came out with an updated TriAxis, I'd be the first one to order it, no doubt. My last two albums I've cut have been with my Triple Rec and the album before that was cut with the TriAxis, and I still love the sound of that disc mainly because of the guitar tone.

Tomorrow night run my mark iv preamp into your vht - that'll give you an idea of how it sounds. Then do it

As a result, I have my amp set up with Channel 1 on "Tweed" and Channel 2 on "Fat."
I'll have to try that. Really, it's an extra channel for me, so why not?
