    NGDx2(ish): Mmm, blue+reverse headstock...

So I snagged a blue reverse-headstocked guitar off of eBay the other day...

    An Ibanez?

    Wait, this isn't it.

This is the RG565 I got in a trade with Brian!

The 565 is just cool. You don't see an HS RG every day, and for some reason it looks way, way better to me than an HSH or HH model. Original Edge bridge, according to the neck it was made in '91 and has been well loved over its playing career. Awesome guitar, lots of character and pretty unique. Plays great too!

But, it's not the new guitar. The RG565 is new-ish, but I've had it for a month or so.

    Ah, this looks more right.

Hmm, wonder what kind of guitar it is?

    It's an ESP "The Mirage"!

Love the color and the grain. It's iridescent in the right lighting.

    Reverse headstock and Sperzels!

    Mmm... HSS.

Wilkinson trem too, recessed for floating! Haven't really seen that before...

    Ash body... yum!

A real ESP, no less. None of this LTD stuff.

Well, since I've got both blue+reverse sixers out, let's get some side-by-side shots then.

The ESP is a rare-ish model known as "The Mirage." I got it for a steal, and it plays beautifully and sounds very good, although I will be swapping the stock LH-200 humbucker for a spare '80s JB that is collecting dust.

The tonewood and pickup combo (ash+bolt-on maple neck+JB) are just about perfect for my Budda, and sound amazing... harmonics just leap out, and the distortion is bright but smooth at the top end without any 'spikiness.' The single-coils are clear, clangy, and very Strat-esque. I don't know how similar they are to Tom Anderson pickups, but visually they're very similar.

Neck profile is narrow and slim, but with a fairly curved back profile that's extremely comfy. The Wilkinson bridge (recessed even) is unbelievably stable, with a moderately stiff action (after I dialed it in) and the best tremolo arm/arm holder assembly EVER. And the Sperzels make string changes easy... I threw some 10-46 Elixirs on there and it took maybe 5 minutes.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play some blues... blue guitars, that is.

Nah, mine had a non-reversed headstock. One of the many guitars that I should have kept.
