I have a black '85 Rhoads that was my main guitar for the formative years of Division. I used it for the writing of the first two CDs, and the recording of the first. Right before the recording of the second disc in 97, I got an endorsement with Jackson, I got new guitars, and this guitar sat unused, basically until last month.
Since I've decided to go back to six strings full time, I pulled this guitar out and put new strings on it. There was a pack of GHS Boomers in the case, I stopped using Boomers in 99 so that's how long it had been since this guitar saw any use.
Anyway, this guitar just smokes. It feels like playing an old friend again. It needs a setup, as it hasn't been setup in 10+ years, and I'm playing in C#, but other than that, what a kick ass guitar.
Anyone else have this kind of experience?
Oddly enough, yes. When I went back to playing six string electrics in JWP, your black Rhoads' partner in crime, my white Zion Turbo, just sat there while I played my Dinky. When I broke two strings on the Dinky one night at rehearsal, I picked up the Zion. Despite strings that I don't think have been changed since 2001, and badly needing frets, the guitar just smokes. Since there's a Plek shop in Falls Church, at some point this summer I'll be getting new frets and Plek-ing it, and I'll guarantee I go back to playing it regularly.
