I've been looking hard for a new 7 string since I realized that sanding down the 7321 was annoying as fuck and being like rest of the other dildo modders on SS.org was a bit annoying. So I sold that sucker and am looking for a new 7. While on this hunt however, I've been looking more at other older guitars like RG-560's, 550's, etc etc... What I was looking for in my new 7 string was to NOT have an immediate metal vibe given off by it, instead something that can be an all around guitar - but the other part of my says "Fuck that, good guitar! good guitar!" at stuff like Hellraisers and Loomis'. I've also been toying with the idea of picking up something like a 76/7420 and redoing it in maybe Road Flare Red and slapping on a pickguard and having an RG-5570 as I've been calling it. What do you guys think? Keep going on my hunt for a kind of subtle non-metal but can still be used for metal 7 or just mod a 76/7420 into an RG-5570?
I should also mention this time, while stripping the guitar, chemical > sanding. From what I've seen/read it looks a lot easier.
