My band's going 8-strings. Matt already has his LTD SC608B (which I have played, and is awesome) and Richard's awaiting delivery of his Schecter Hellraiser C-8 in black. We've been experimenting a bit with Matt on his 8-string to see what I want to do with bass. I've tried playing in unison, and considered tuning to drop-B so I could go down the octave when they went higher than the low string, which was kind of cool, but made the low F# riffs sound a little weak. So, I tried tuning my Jazz Bass V down to low F# and the string was obviously really floppy, but it sounded really cool, and so I've decided I have to get a 6-string bass and tune F#-B-E-A-D-G. Since I'm almost completely broke, my solution is this:
I'm going to order one of these, and mod it for heavier strings (thinking something along the lines of my usual 45-130 with a 175 or 185 for the low F#) and gradually change things as I feel I need them (pickups? preamp? bridge? tuners?).
When you get it do you mind doing a quick review? I've been looking at those for a while, and even though they're guitars are quite solid for the most part, I'm not as confident in their basses for some reason.
