Hey guys so i've done some searching/research and there aren't really any les pauls out there being used for real brutal drop tuned riffage. Other than nut issues and intonation which can be worked around. In terms of pickups i'm thinking of blackouts vs warpig/painkiller combo.. just wondering what your inputs would be..
Are you a big fan of the 'active sound' or are you more of a passive guy? My favorite six-string pickups for heavier stuff in mahogany are the Duncan Custom and Suhr Aldrich in the bridge and the Jazz or Aldrich neck in the neck position... but from what I've heard about BKPs, those should do you pretty well too.
If you've got a decent boost, any clear, well-defined pickup with good midrange will get you a brutal sound. Several of the guys here swear by the vintage-spec Duncan JB, which is a pretty low-output pickup; however, you can crank it right up next to the strings for enough output.
