Hey guys. So I'm obviously not a fancy guitar tech or anything like that. I know how to maintain them and change strings etc, but beyond that I don't know much. I have a B.C. Rich Virgo and I love the guitar. I changed the strings on it to some 12g because I play alot of Death/Black metal in drop tunings. I noticed the other day that it's not playing like it used too. I took a closer look at it and notice the neck is bent up slightly at the head stock (the action at the head stock is about 1/32 while at fret 9 it's almost 1/4in). I assume this is because of the heavier gauge strings? How can I fix this? By adjusting the truss rod? Like I said I'm not a tech by any means so I'm not sure. Also it's a bolt on neck with through body strings.
Am I going to have the same trouble when I put the 13g strings on my Explorer? It's a through body neck w/ a stop tail piece.
thanks for the help!
Yep, you'll need to tighten the truss rod. It's not difficult to do at all, just stick to 1/4 turns at a time and give it a few hours to settle in after each turn and you can't go wrong. There's plenty of good tutorials online if you're really not sure.
The neck bending a bit is perfectly normal whenever you change gauges or tuning, and is very easy to correct.
