Default Jackson DK2?

Jackson DK2

I've been GASsing for a trem and single coil equipped guitar for quite some time now. Does anyone have any experience with these? They look the business, and the specs are quite impressive for the price.

This would be my first ever floating trem guitar. How is the licensed Floyd likely to perform? I'm not one for huge divebombs or Herman Li nonsense, just the odd warble or two. Would a genuine Floyd fit into the routing?

Opinions would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I've just discovered that the "single coils" are actually stacks.

I've been doing a lot of research on Jacksons lately so I can share what I've found...

From what I understand, is an OFR will be a drop-in replacement; the post spacing is identical. You can re-use the existing posts, also; I think the ones that come with the OFR are slightly larger?

Check out this thread on JCF Online: Replacing a JT580 Lo-Pro for a OFR - JCF Online

FWIW I used to own a DXMG and an RR2, and they both had the JT580LP trem and I had no issues. OFR would be a definite upgrade, though.

I miss both of them; the necks are awesome. Extremely fast. The fretwork on the MIJ Jackson's is among the best I've seen in the price range.

I think you'll be happy with the DK2. I have two Jacksons on my short list now; an RR24M and the new SLAT3-7 soloist 7 string - can't wait.

I wouldn't worry so much about the neck/middle PUs being stacked. They still sound like single-coils, in my experience. They can be replaced easily if you don't like them.

The licensed Floyd will get you by for awhile. Their biggest problem is that the knife edges and various hardware bits wear out faster, so you'll probably want to replace it with an OFR eventually.

The Japanese Jacksons make great "building blocks" because the woods and fretwork are good. The hardware is easy to upgrade with a little bit of knowledge, and then you have a pro-level guitar.

I played one at a shop a few weeks ago and while it was a nice guitar I didn't think it was amazing. Although that might have been because I had just been playing a Jackson SLS3 right before. Theres no doubt about the fact that they're well built guitars, though. The only thing to watch out for is the neck heel imo because they are pretty bulky compared to Ibanez.

I've been meaning to grab one of those for awhile, myself. The sustainer in those is very powerful and effective.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (S60; SymbOS; Opera Mobi/353; U; en-US) Presto/2.4.15 Version/10.00)

I have an old Dinky Reverse with the same trem. I've owned it now for almost a decade. I don't constantly abuse it but it gets use. Only thing I've had to do is replace a saddle once and general setup work every now and then. I got it used too, so I wasn't the only person using it. I think it is at least 15 years old honestly.
