I'm trying to decide which to get my carvin neck made with.
I'v heard nothing but good things on koa's tone, its a bit pricier, but i dont mind.
The walnut i'm a bit unfimilar with, but its frikking beautiful, and not very expensive.
The mahogany is something i'm much more fimilar with, i was a les paul user for years.
So i want some advice here. Right now, i have a very bright guitar in my Zebra. I'm usually a dark guitar kinda guy, so i'm going to go for a darker to mid brightness on this one.
Reguardless, im probably going with the blank ebony board because it just looks great.
Ebony will likely add brightness to the tone, so you should take that into account. I think Walnut would likely be brighter than what you'd be looking for, so it'd be between mahogany and koa. I've never played a koa guitar, but have also heard great things about it... that alone would make me want to try it. And yeah... that stuff is beautiful.
