Default Oh God... Rainsong Temptation!

So... I have the option of buying a Rainsong WS10000 (all carbon fiber grand auditorium acoustic) for $1150. I've already put a down payment on a rather costly little amp, and I haven't had much luck in selling my old gear.

I can afford it if I go easy on the spending for a few months afterwards... is it worth it? I played one of these things at a local store the other day and it just sounded amazing!

I also don't own any acoustics... so this is reeeeally tempting, especially because the whole durability/stability and uniqueness factor is really high...

A completely subjective discussion of semantics? Awesome!

A friend of mine owns a Rainsong... If you dig the tone, then go for it.

I'm on the fence. They're VERY contemporary sounding, very bell like, very even, very full frequency... Almost more like a piano than a guitar. They also look hot as hell.

That said, my taste in acoustic tone definitely runs a bit more vintage, more warm than bright. And if you're into that, then you're ultimately going to want something else once the new guitar afterglow wears off.

If you dig the tone unequivically, do it. If not, $1200 can buy you a lot of guitar if you're patient on the used market - I got my Martin for quite a bit less than that. I'd normally say just go for it, no questions asked, but a Rainsong is a very unusual sounding guitar, so make sure you're buying it because you like the sound of a Rainsong, and not buying it because it happens to be a little cheaper than the going rate.

I tend towards the "Taylor" end of the spectrum for an acoustic tone preference (clarity, bell-like highs, good sustain, even frequency response without a pronounced midrange) so I think it'll be right up my alley. That and the climate immunity/tuning stability alone make it pretty interesting... I'm going to meet up with the guy and play it tomorrow and see what I think.

Honestly, your tone description fits my acoustic tone preference pretty much spot-on... I'm not a huge fan of the muddier, bassier frequencies of a lot of the vintage dreadnoughts I've tried, although your Martin is quite nice-sounding if I remember correctly, with a nice blend of warmth and snap.

I REALLY want to hear a 12-string Rainsong one of these days though... that would just be huge-sounding.

That is an awesome price on an awesome guitar. Buy it, hold onto it until I have the cash, and sell it to me.

This buddy of mine also owns a JS-10th Chrome Boy. I'm SURE that's no coincidence.

Well, I own a Dean Black Gold Z (explorer style), a purple+maple Septor 727, an 8-string, and a Schecter C-4 Elite (with the abalone binding everywhere). Let's just say my taste in guitars does not run towards the 'understated' end of the spectrum.

I don't own an acoustic, it's been a while since i've owned one. I play my mother's Ibanez and my buddy's Fender whenever i'm around them but that's about it.

I want to get one though. I really like the new Ibanez acoustics.
