    Unison top strings.

Has anyone ever experimented with this idea on a seven or eight-string; doubling the top string with an identical-gauge one, like Stephan Carpenter does when he plays his old six-string material on his sevens?

I was just thinking that it would be really cool to do this with Open C tuning (CGCGcee) and bust out some massive, Devy-style chords, as whenever I've tried the GCGCGce version on a seven, I've never really found myself using the low G much.

That's what Wes Borland did when he played 7s as well. I've never tried it, but being that I love my 12-string, I can definitely see how it could create some cool sounds.

Years ago, I got the idea to try tunings that (sort of) spelled out words, so I tuned an old beater guitar to DADDEE. Didn't even bother to change the strings.

I got a really good set of rhythm guitar parts out of it. It sounds sort of like Alex Lifeson on steroids.

It does sound really cool, I tried it out for a while, but ultimately I felt castrated when playing leads. That was on a 6 string though, I haven't really thought about doing it on a 7 or 8.
