Has anyone tried this; stringing the bottom six strings like a sixer, then adding a unison top string, like Wes Borland and Stef Carpenter do/did?
Can't imagine it'd be that useful for lead (although you could get some ultra-skronky minor-second diads for wierd noises!), but it's be really cool for big lush drony parts.
I was thinking DADGAD or Open C tuning would both lend themselves really well to this approach...
I think paul gilbert did it too occasionally, for speed ( like he needs it :s )
