So I'm looking for a luthier to send my guitar off to for a refret and I'd appreciate if some of you more experienced guys could weigh in on a couple of these points.
-Stainless Steel Frets. Pros and Cons? They last longer, correct? But I've heard the tone is brighter? Warmoth says theres not a detectable difference, but I've heard otherwise.
-Stock Jackson fret size? Guitar is a 1990 AT pro.
-Any reccomendations for a good luthier? I'm shipping it out anyways, so anywhere in the cont. US is fine. Asked Sherman in chat last night (as per some of your reccomendations) and he says he does refret guitars, forgot to ask if non local stuff is OK
-What exactly is the process for refretting a bound neck? Is the binding removed? I ask because the binding on one side around the twelth fret is quite damaged already, and if its being taken off already maybe it could be touched up.
The binding is not removed, but that is the absolute perfect chance to get the binding repaired.
Im a big fan of Vaughn here in town, does KICKASS work, although i dunno what his standard pricing is. im pretty sure there is someone closer who can do great work too though. If sherm gives you a good price, im fairly certain he could do a good job with it
