So it was between taking one of beloved my RG1527's (i swear i cant get over how much i love the neck on these) or getting a beater guitar for the upcoming two months of international work travel i have.
I am 99.9% sure either TSA or baggage handlers would completely destroy the RG1527. So went into a local music shop hoping to get a cheap sixer that i can put in my luggage (got the idea from Cameron, he took the neck off his guitars and wrapped them in clothes when he flew out to Kevans).
The only cheaper sixer i liked as an RG570, but the trem looked like hell + they wanted almost $400 for it.
However luckily I found this in laying around there for just over $100
Now it no Kxk or Bernie Rico Jr, but the neck is straight, it intonates, and it has 24 frets (my criteria).
It's a decent shape Schecter Revenger 7, funnily it is by far the best schecter i have ever played; the neck is unpainted, the frets are level, and the neck shape is relatively small (not as small as an Ibanez, and still C shaped unfortunately) but nothing some sand paper cant fix.
Just to compare I have owned a Loomis 7, Blackjack 7, Blackjack ATX 7, and a Hellraiser 7; and they all had the same unplayable Louisville Slugger neck.
I'm not sure if the pups in it are stock or not (i thought they came with Duncan Designs, these are unlabeled)? However i have an extra mismatched color Blaze - Air Norton combo laying around that i can throw in there. Haven't had time to try the pups in it yet, so who knows i might like them.
The basswood in this guitar is probably the heaviest basswood ever (must be all glue and filler?), but for the majority of the next two months this is going to be my main axe.
Nominee for guitar of the month?
Bro - when you coming down to SoCal?
