So, I was given the opportunity to pick a Strat as a Christmas present. As per the poll I posted (and my own initial instinct), I went for a white one with a maple neck. I went to guitarguitar in Edinburgh, played her, and then swiftly took her home.
This is possibly the only flaw which niggles at me. It seems as if the tremolo cavity is a hair too big in front of the arm hole.
Overall, I'm very happy. I've wanted a Strat since I saw David Gilmour on the Pulse DVD, and it's lovely to finally have one in my hands. The stock pickups are decent, but they neither were nor are quite as sparkly as I'd like through the Orange amp at the shop or my Pod XT back at my flat. Never mind; as many of you say, half the fun of having a Strat is upgrading it piece by piece, which I aim to do, as and when funds allow me.
Chris, was the Strat on which you replaced the stock tuning machines with Sperzels a Standard Mexican? Did you have to drill any holes or were they a direct retrofit?
Do any of you have any experience with Kinman noiseless single-coils?
And I wouldnt worry about the trem cavity. Most people wouldn't find it unless you tell them.. I know I didn't
