This afternoon I dropped off my PRS SE Custom 24 and my Squier affinity strat off at my tech's place.
I had ordered a Black Widow and V-1 with a push/pull pot and 500K CTS pot from J S Moore pickups and they arrived in London just before I did. These are the same pickups that are in the Sims I had received.
Now I'd like to mention that my plan of attack with the Cu24 was to black it out as soon as I had put black Sperzels on it. I hadn't found pickup rings (PRS rings are $30... fuck that!), and I was between keeping the black knobs or putting on two amber tophats I have floating around. There is/was a red SE Cu24 at the local dealer and damn, it is hot.
So as we're talking about how there's no standards for wiring diagrams and gear in general, Eric mentions that the output jacks on these guitars aren't that great, and he probably has one lying around. 5 minutes later and the guitar is sporting a solid looking jack. Next he turns to me; "hey man, I might have rings we can use" - he grinds down Gibson rings and happens to have a set on hand.
We keep talking, he recalls how he suggested replacing the nut, and goes back to his box o' parts... yup, he has a Tusq XL nut already cut to PRS dimensions. He had looked for one the last time this guitar was in, but couldn't find it.
He's cutting me a great deal on the parts, which I greatly appreciate. Within one hour, it went from a pickup swap to finishing the blackout and upgrading process. I will also have a clean, mean candy apple red strat to practice my RHCP with as well.
I'm quite excited to see, hear and play the finished product!
To anyone in London Ontario, bring your guitar to the Rock Doctor and tell him Justin sent ya!
