So I just played one of the KxK multiscales that a friend I go to school with got. Wow.
He got his with a matte finish, and custom inlays. The exact guitar in question is shown below.
Here are my thoughts:
First and foremost, the build quality is 100% excellent. Frets were perfect, wood choice and quality were awesome, fingerboard looked like silk.
On first strum, I was instantly surprised on how acoustically loud it was. This thing is thin and light, so I thought that it would be more muffled and dull. The notes seemed to have that "glimmer" instead of that "tang". Also, you could feel the vibrations if you strummed a chord and then grabbed the body. Just absurd sounds. I didn't get a chance to plug it in, since we were in his office, but I am not the least bit worried about the tone plugged in.
One thing I noticed though, is that the string gauges were too light for my liking, and the action was a bit high. However, I am sure that could be fixed.
Also, the fan isn't for me. The tone if it was great, but I found that executing sweep patterns on the 15th fret and above was difficult, especially if you were trying to bar a few strings in the pattern. You have to move the angle of your entire hand so that finger is parallel to the frets, and that was just too much motion against economy of motion.
After my wedding and honeymoon is all taken care of, I am definitely going to look into ordering a custom KxK Sii-7. I just want to try out some EBMM Petruccis and the new Jackson Broderick 7 first.
