I've done a complete 180 on these recently. I used to not want to own any guitars with them due to aesthetic reasons. But I've done a complete turnaround ever since I got my Student Soloist back up and running a month ago. Sometimes the less snappy/warmer tone is nice, especially with a really piercing pickup like an 81. I daresay I might be in the market for another Student Soloist soon.
Your opinions on rosewood?
I love oily fretboard woods. Ebony is nice if done very well, but rosewood or similar woods are always a win in my book. Lower maintenance, too. Maple is also lovely but it has to be finished, so it's a bit different in my book.
