..because I (currently?) just cant get along with my old RG7420 anymore. I still love it, was my first 7string, and actually the first guitar i bought NEW (10 years ago) - but the trem is (altough blocked) fuck'd (wont hold all the strings anymore, they keep jumpin out of the saddle - esp. the 0.72/low G#), new nut would be needed, a fretjob would be needed, the tunermechanics should be replaced, and so on and on and on...
So, while i actually DO want to do all those things - I dont ahve enought ime at the moment, so old Ibby needs to rest a few months, and I need a new "workhorse".
Due to my current needs, this is what i need:
.) 26.5"/27" scale (no 25.5")
.) no trem
.) string through preferred
.) no basswood
.) black, or at least "dark enough"
.) budget is ~1000,- (EUR), but i can cough up some more if I should find the gutiar, no problem there.
My current main guitar is a Schecter C-7 (EMG707 equipped, and really digging it. Yes, I like EMG. at least the 707), and I want the new one to be at least a BIT different, not exactly the same guitar twice.
I traced it down to the following models:
.) ESP Ltd SC607B
This looks sexy as f***, also I have a huge faible for reversed headstocks. BUT - there is no way I could try it out, and I have NO IDEA how the necks are on those, and how it would work for me. I am at the moment really getting along better with the Schecter neck than the Ibby one, if this says something...also it would be my first guitar without (real) inlays, not sure how I would get along with that. The middle-instead-of-neck-pickup..hmm, also not sure how I feel about that, but I think that wouldnt be a problem for me. But overall: ordering it would be the most "risk".
Also I would probably have to change the pickup - absolutely hated the 81-7 (in a Jackson Cow7, but that guitar was utterly crap anyway).
.) Schecter Loomis NT
There should be the possibility to try it out, but even if not - I know I am comfortable with the neck and its playability, and since I have spend some time with the Framus 7s, I always wanted a swamp ash 7string. EMG707 = also win for me.
Only downer for me: Imho the metal-cross inlays are fugly.
.) Schecter C-7 Custom
Probably the closest to my current guitar, but passive-equipped. And its an absolute beauty imho, guilted maple ftw. I would really lean towards this one, but its NOWHERE available, and no shop would guarantee me a delivery time within 3 months (this is when I finally need a new guitar, gig-season starts again - no gigs during the summer, and I dont want to gig without a spare guitar).
So, I have to live with a compromise (probably), but I am at the moment a bit unsure which route I should take...full risk and order a SC607B? or go for sure and get one of the Schecters, but either hating the inlays (if they dont look any better IRL than on the pics) or running danger to not getting it in time?
So, if anyone could maybe tell me something about the ESP/Ltd necks, or maybe knows a guitar meeting my specs i forgot, or sees something I am currently blind for...
(I dont want to get an Agile, import is not worth it, esp. considering (judging from reviews etc.) the quality is hit-or-miss on those, and getting into the whole "claim-than-ship-back-wait-forever" circle would kill me)
