My store got a bunch of cheapshit Johnson and AXL guitars in the other day, and one of the 3 electrics caught my eye...they've got this "distressed" finish that's a bit different from your typical relicing, and this particular one basically looks like it was buried for a while, making me think it could be a cool stage guitar for my band Recently Vacated Graves: True Zombie Metal.
I did a bit of research on them, apparently they actually have a solid alder body. The neck is nicely worn in, no sharp fret ends to speak of, and the pickups didn't sound too terrible through the Blackstar I plugged it into...mainly it just needs a setup, maybe a fret job (something I can do myself), a nut upgrade (I'm thinking Tusq), and I have a Duncan Distortion sitting around here at home. I'm not sure if I can get my employee discount on this thing, since it's listed as used, even though it's technically new (that's what they do for brands we don't technically carry), but either way it'd be under $100.
Here's the website about them: AXL Guitars
And here's the one I'm thinking of picking up:
I like the look of distressed badwater, the lighter one with the cracks all over it. I'd consider buying one if I could upgrade the parts too starting with the neck (would slap a warmoth on it)
