so i paid for this guitar in feb this year. it has been a long hassel but its finally here. ill be posting a review when im not using my phone.
here it is, the most custom built guerilla built that i know of.
i paid for the custom paint job and kosta took a discontinued body style and recontinued it and configured it for a 27" 7 string
any way that should about do it. i have about a 4 hr drive ahead of me so i think i will post a review.
I will be using a 1-10 scale. ill start with the guitar
NECK: The neck is amazing. i like an ultra wide and thin neck. i asked kosta to make the neck exactly like the k-7 and he 1up-ed it. his is hands down the most amazing 7string neck i have ever played on. -10
BODY: The body is awesome. its comfortable, good size, looks cool and is very light. the cutaway for frett access is also amazing. the heel is perfect. no flaws at all with the body.-10
FINISH: The finish is super. i asked that he do a yello and black but he did orange and black. i love orange and black but i wanted yellow and black. the finish is bitter sweet because its an amazing finish and the coating used is awesome. my hand glides across the neck like ky on a v-eye-brator. however, i did pay for yellow and got orange. -9
FRETT BOARD: The frett board is flawless. je uesed top quality materials in building this. the side dots are absolutly perfect and the fretts are perfectly crowned. he also did an amazing job with thos scale length. the 27" scale is fitted on the body in such away the the guitar is the same length as my rg 550. its a bit taller but it dosnt look like a 27" scale guitar. i need to get used to the wider spaced fretts though. its making my hand cramp up when i play choards on the top of the neck. -10
SOUND: Im using SD blackouts with a bass wood body. the tone could be better but i ordered the body wood. wish i had gone with mahogany. -10
OVERALL: Id say that this is a 10/10 guitar. like i said i wish it was yellow but i do love orange and was debating an orange and black finish anyway.
QUALITY: The case is good. its a solid case and for it being included in the price of the guitar i have no complaints. the gierilla logo is starting to come off already. its pretty fragile. but whatever. -8
STYLE: The case is very stylish. awesome special forces theme case. i love the nato special weapons case but this one is cool aswell. -9
DEALING WITH THE AXEPALACE: Nick was good to do bussiness with. some times when id call i could tell he was frusterated but it was not really a bad experience. things get a bit murky between what kosta tells me and wjat nick tells me on the build ut nick seemed to be overly willing to fix any wrong that happened during the ordeal. -8
DEALING WITH GUERILLA: Kosta was shady and un reliable. he was nice in emails but when you are told "the guitar will be done this may" and you recieve it in sept, it dosnt matter how nice the emails are. i hesitate telling the storyof the ordeal because the guitar is so amazing but builders have got to learn how to acciratly estimate build times.
i called nick last september and started asking him about guerilla guitars when he first started carrying thwm. he was answering all my questions and i got away with murder when it came to options on the guitar. i literally chose every thing about this guitar including the exepmption of knobs. nick estimated the build to be about 8-10 weeks . i was told that building would start when 50% was paid. I paid 50% in november 2010 and was told that the build would soon begin. the guitar was suppose to.be done in march wich was about 12-16 weeks but i didnt sweat it. when i got my tax returns i paid it off in full. that was near the end of feb 2011. i was excited to recieve my guitar in march. well march came and went and i didnt hear from nick or guerilla. i thought maybe something happend and it was to be shipping soon. i was told then that it would be done april or may. knowing how guitar builders are i knew may was more likley. those months passed and i would call about once a week and ask nick if it was shipping or if there was any update. that was the point where he got annoyed with me wich i understand. i decided to just wait till end of june and then try again. i couldnt wait that long and ended up emailing guerilla about two weeks later. kosta replied and assured me that the guitar would be done in july. at this point i wanted a build pic. he normally dosnt do pics because peopl think the guitar is alot closer to being done than it actually is. but when u are that late on a build then a pic is a very reasonable request. with out a pic i was begining to wonder if kosta was going out of bissiness or if i was going to be SOL and out 2700 dollars. kosta said he would get me a pic the following monday. monday came and went with no pic. infact i didnt recieve a pic till august. so i was certain that would be getting my guitar in august and that the paint was done so it should be assembled and shipped out soon. wrong. i didnt get the guitar untill sept 22. nick shipped it 3 day delivery wich was awesome on his part. both nick and kosta have different stories about what went down but at one point i told nick that i was done playing games and was wanting a refund. he was more thatn happy to do that. i got my build pice that friday so i decided to see it through.
i will say this. i will order from nick every time i want a custom because he has the customers back. i will order another guerilla but i will only buy one that is already built. i am not interested in playing ring around the rosies with another builder. i have heard good things about kxk and deamoness but i just wish guitar builders would be compleatly upfront and honest with their clients. if i had been told "it will take about a year to complete the guitar " i would have still gotten it. being told a year then getting it early is great. being told 8-10 weeks then getting it in 9 months is frusteraing. the over all experience is a 6.
kosta knows how to build a guitar and for 2700 i got a shit load of guitar, i will buy another guerilla in the futur but i am not in a hurry to order a custom from them.
Hell of a second post, and very unique looking axe. Congrats man!
