49s for drop c on 25.5 is going to be hooker loose. I use 10-56s for it on my c1 hellraiser, and i'd like to go to 58.

Don't 60's and 70's Les Pauls have thinner necks?

Right you are. I was mistaken about that. It always felt like the ones I played in stores were short scale, but I was deceived.

What you want is the C-1+. I KNOW that model is 24.75" scale, and they are regularly available used for $300 and under.

Huh. Also, the current C-1 Standard is 24.75" too!
