Well, here's the problem. I just bought a used (ex-demo, but absolutely mint) BC Rich Ironbird from Guitar Center. It was listed in their used section with a tiny pic but no specs mentioned.
I used a third party import company to ship it to me since GC does'nt ship internationally. (ie. I ended up paying full-price anyway, with shipping, import charges etc)
Ironbird Pro's come with a stock OFR.
Mine came with a Floyd "Special" fitted to it instead. It also had some light shipping damage (chipped headstock, rear horn/point) from being inadequately packed.
I wrote to GC telling them that someone had swapped out the OFR for a Special and that that was'nt acceptable..blah..blah..
I got a reply from the sales manager which was pretty apologetic saying that they did'nt normally carry this model (they do) and that they had two other used ones with the same (Special) bridge. He denied they'd been swapped out & said they might be an earlier model or something. (Ironbird Pro's have only ever come with stock OFR's) He said he'd speak to his manager about it etc..etc..
Anyway, this is what I received from the new store manager this morning:
"I am sorry that you were unaware of the bridge that was on this guitar. Yours is one of a few of that model that were bought by our company as used pieces straight from BC Rich. They all arrived with this same bridge, as was noted by -----, our Sales Manager. I do sympathize with your situation, and I want to do what I can to make it right. I would be willing to sell you the Floyd Rose Bridge you desire at cost, so we would make no money on the sale. We could not ship this overseas ourselves, so you would have to do this through your 3rd party once again. Let me know if this interests you, and we can proceed further. Thanks"
Is this fair? ...and what options, if any do I have. Any suggestions anyone? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
Honestly, dude, those aren't bad bridges. I'd push for him to refund you some cash, around $50, and call it a day.
