I have build a few guitars in my time however, I have never really experimented with top woods. So for my next build have been planning on making a 7 string esp f series body with a Conklin headstock i.e. these:
I am planning on building it neck through as a 5 piece neck maple with carbon fibre. I was planning on using either alder or poplar as the wings (bored of mahogany I want a really clear tone). Ebony fret board, no inlays, 27" with a kahler trem and BKP painkillers (maybe Aftermaths not sure yet).
I am planning on doing a dark/emerald green burst to black and matching the headstock. However, that's going to require some tasty top woods.
I was planning on using flamed maple set. However looking at the eye poplar in the RAN build looks amazing so I am tempted by that (that, and I really want a RAN but £2000 is kinda out of my reach).
So any ideas on other top woods? or the build?
Quilted maple. My BFR is a emerald green to black burst quilt and I love it.
