Okay, this isn't really new, but I never posted a NGD for it when I got it a few months back.
As you know, I apparently have a penchant for blue and black superstrats, but after doing some minor paid tech work on the side (installing pickups, intonating and balancing Floyds, tweaking truss rods, etc.) and finding a coupon, I went to try some gear out. Was originally going to just pick up a few FX pedals for my current project, but I happened across this thing hanging in a corner, unloved, took it down, and that was it.
PRS SE 245!
Looks very nice too.
Inlays look so much better than the older ones. Fretwork is pretty good too.
Next to a more "normal" Singlecut, this thing is a beast! Thick solid (heavy) mahogany body, thicker neck, thicker headstock. Very comfortable though, with belly cut and a comfortable rounded V-ish profile (less shoulders and more comfortable for me than a Les Paul)
This guitar was at Quigfest, too!
-Thick mahogany neck and body
So, I'm torn as to what pickups to get for this thing. The stocks sound very good, but I'm eventually looking to swap them out.
The three options I'm looking at:
-Duncan Jazz (N) and SH-5 Custom (B)
I've heard good things about this combination in a Les Paul style guitar. I'm a little worried about it lacking sweetness in the top end though since I love bridge pickup leads. It'd be something different from what I have, though. I have never actually played a guitar with a Custom in it so I have no idea how the pickup sounds "in real life."
-Duncan Jazz (N) and Suhr Aldrich (B)
I know this combination should sound *killer* in this guitar, and will help deal with the somewhat overwhelming lower midrange and bottom that the guitar has right now. However, I have two guitars with an Aldrich in the bridge, so I'm open to branching out.
-Duncan Jazz (N) and Gibson Burstbucker Pro (B)
My guitarist's Faded Les Paul Vintage Mahogany had a set of Burstbucker Pros in it and that guitar sounded *killer.* Great clarity and string separation and plenty of sweetness, but I'm not sure it'll have enough bite.
Any other options or opinions? I've got plenty of JBs, and while the BKP VHIIs sound really sweet, they're a bit more than I'd like to spend especially since I can land most of these pickups new and used for $60-80 or so.
That guitar plays like a fucking beast.
