So I'm thinking about ordering one of these guitars just for shits and giggles, while I patiently wait on another custom guitar to be built, which should be done in about 7 months... Bummer... My concerns though have to do with intonation and the bridge. If I order a dc727, with the hardtail bridge, will I be able to intonate the guitar to other various tunings ex: (A standard, drop Ab, drop A) by adjusting the gague of the strings and making adjustments to the bridge? The only reason why I ask is because I had another guitar (not a carvin) that was a 25.5" scale, that I could not intonate to drop-Ab. Specifically, I could not get the low string (Ab) to intonate, but the other strings, which were tuned down a 1/2 step were intonated without a problem.
Could anybody with some experience with Carvin give me some advice? Also, how is their customer service? I have never dealt with them before.
Ab on 25.5" might be pretty damn difficult. My personal suggestion would be to look into an Ibanez RGD or a Schecter Loomis, as they are 26.5", making the low tuning much more manageable.
As far as intonating, you should be able to get away with Ab on a 25.5" scale, but it isn't a guarantee. That has to do more with where the bridge is located and how much travel the saddle allows than it does scale length anyway.
