Default Ibanez RG7421?

I need some opinions on the Ibanez RG7421. Are they MIJ? Are the necks the thinnest of the wizard 7 necks?

I've been wanting to pick up some kind of nice Ibby 7 here lately, preferably with a fixed bridge. And, I spoted one of these pretty cheap.

Thanks guys.

They are the thinnest if it has a bubinga strip. The 'solid' all maple necks were slightly thicker and taken from the RG762x. I've never seen a 7621 neck on a 7421, but I haven't seen many 7421's.

They were all MIJ.

Given the choice, I'd go for a 7421 over a 7621. They were functionally identical, except the 7621 came with a few extra colour options, a different bridge, and those god-awful Dimarzio New-7's.

The 7421 came with an in-house bridge (it's fixed, it doesn't move, it works - what more do you need?!) and god-awful in-house V77 and V87 pickups.

Either way the guitar will need a pup swap, but I think the 742x necks were better and the different routing on the 7421 means fitting replacement pickups is much easier.

Thanks for the info. Even if it has the solid maple neck that's slightly thicker, are they still relatively thin? For reference, I had a rg7321 probably 3-4 yr's ago, I remember the neck profile on it being pretty good.

I'd put the RG762x neck (all maple) as being closer to the RG7321 profile of old - slightly thicker - but the key thing is really that these necks were better finished. Rolled edges, great fretwork, they felt played in and fantastic.

The 7420 neck was skinnier - some 2mm thinner than the RG7321's Wizard II-7 profile and you will notice it, but in a good way.

Should be pretty similar to the 7321 neck, maybe slightly nicer contour, but similar thickness, IIRC.

Edit: What he said, he's a bigger Ibanez 7-string nut than I

Thanks guys, so I guess I need to find out whether it has the bubinga stripe down the neck or not, to determine for sure.

Both the 7621 and 7421 had the same necks. The presence or lack of a bubinga stripe is based on year of production, not model.

Alright, so were they both the thin wizard 1-7 neck?

He was right about the bubinga striped one being slightly thinner, but essentially they are the same neck. I've owned both. I love both.

Alright, cool Maybe, I'll pick this up.

So would you guys says the RG7421 is a more higher end guitar than the RG7321?

The Rg7321 was a good guitar, but I'm wanting to get a bit higher end ibby this time, thats why I was looking for MIJ models.
