Basically, between me and a friend i'm looking at building guitars out of carbon fibre. If it works out how i want it to, we might even make some innovations that other companies don't do yet.
One of the things i'd like to incorporate, is on board effects. Specifically i'd like to be able to give the player the versatility of both active and passive pick ups. I'm thinking of an active circuit that can be used with passive pick ups to give them a distinctly active sound, hopefully this would mean players could get the warm passive sound or with the flick of a switch a harsher more modern metal active one.
Does anyone know of any active effects like that? I think the nearest i can think of is the EMG afterburner.

Seymour Duncan just announced their new modular Blackouts system that does exactly this. Darren put one in one of his latest Decibel builds.
