Different people have their preferences, like chemicals, a new squeeze, spiritual quests. This particular year I was unexpectedly in the tight grip of "equipment acquisition obsessive disorder". Specifically, a Jackson "Dinky" with the Sustainiac option, the DK2S, was the object of this desire. I'd been aware of them for at least a year or so, and after having heard one on YouTube, I knew that this would be my next guitar (or at least one with the sustainer electronics).
New, they tend to go for about a thou a throw, sometimes less. Last week I happened to drop by Jackson's website and was alarmed to see that the DK2S appeared to no be longer in production. A day or so later, I did a periodic check on eBay and was surprised to see a DK2S, in the highly desirable "Inferno Red", for $499! "What's wrong with it?" I asked myself. It was listed as "b-stock", which, it turns out, to refer to some sort of scratch in the paint near where the neck attaches to the body. It's not even visible in the picture below. Otherwise, the guitar is new, with a factory warranty and a nice SKB case.
So if you hadn't figured it out by now, I was overcome by The Obsession and finagled a way to acquire it (legally, of course). It's set to arrive on Thursday.
So here are some pictures. They have one left as of now, if anyone's interested, and an "a-stock", or whatever they call them, for $599. Even then, that's a great price compared to $999.
