Hello axe brothers
I have a bit of a dilemma. Since I discovered its existence I have often drooled over the Gilmour Black Stratocaster (the one with the maple neck and black pick guard). The more I look at it the more I want to have it. However, I am not sure if it really want one, or if it's just me loving the guitars shape and colour and so on. :S
Anyways, I cannot afford it by a long way. Maybe in 10 years or so, but not atm. However I have found other guitars that look the same but don't have the same specs. I drool almost as much over them as over the Gilmour strat (which should make my desire for the guitar simply a visual one).
Now the question: should I buy a guitar just because of its looks...? I have owned guitars with single coil pups before, but I didn't like the sound of them. To weak and hissy. Now the Gilmour strat has active EMG single coil pups, and I could refit a black strat copy with active SC pups too, but that might still not make it sound the way I want it to sound.
Is it a wise idea to go after this guitar, and risk it being left on the wall, very looked at, but never played on (due to sound mainly).
Help me! I have some problems taking decisions (I have no diagnosis of it but I'm sure I'd get one if I visited a shrink or doctor xP) and now I'm torn between the choice of buying it and not buying it.
(Btw I have a question to any forum admin: and I'm just wondering whether this thread should be at this section or not?)
Buddy of mine up the road here picked up a very nice Mexi-strat that had the EMG Gilmore upgraded pickups in it, seems like a pretty costly upgrade (I think he said it was all totaled $400 or around there including the pickguard) but man, that Strat was the nicest I've played. Those pickups were amazing!
I'm sure that's a cheaper option than a David Gilmore sig???
You're in the right area BTW....
